Three men have been arrested by police for stealing a truck belonging to a Chinese firm after they were tracked trying to escape in Samburu County.
The truck was reported missing on April 3, 2020, by China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) in Murang'a County.
Unknown to the thieves, the tonner tipper truck Registration Number KDA 321J, had a tracking device installed that the company used to keep records of its live location.
Police officers traced it to Reteti Elephant Sanctuary in Namuyak Wildlife Conservancy, Samburu County after intercepting it along Isiolo-Marsabit highway.
According to police reports, the three, Gibson Kariuki, Daniel Mwangi and Simon Kamau, were fleeing to Marsabit County.
Since Kenya partnered with China in infrastructure development in the country, Chinese nationals are a common sight.
A similar incident occurred when three men were arrested for allegedly stealing from a Chinese Water Tunnel Construction Company at their Mairi site, Murang'a County.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the stolen items were recovered in Nairobi County following the arrest of Paul Maina Muniu, Peter Ndua Kilele, and Ezekiel Maina Mwangi.
In a recent case, a Chinese national was robbed of Ksh15 Million cash while he had gone out to celebrate the Chinese New Year on February 11, in Nairobi.
The incident allegedly took place at his home in Lang'ata while he had gone out, only to find the safe he had in his bedroom, missing.
"Police officers visited the scene and established that the bedroom door was not broken into, hence the possibility of an inside job. Besides, the compound is well guarded," read a police report.
