Motorists plying the Langata Road-Airtel stretch on the Southern bypass were on Monday, May 31, greeted by a heavy traffic snarl up caused by an accident involving two trucks and a personal vehicle.

Two trucks were involved in a head-on collision after the truck, heading towards Mombasa Road lost control, veered into the on-coming traffic and hit another trailer head on in the area adjacent to Carnivore Gardens.

The overturned truck covered two lanes of the bypass forcing the motorists to use the service lane.

A personal vehicle that was also involved in the carnage has been towed away.

The traffic situation spilled over to Mombasa Road and Langata Road. Traffic Police are on site to manage the situation.

Motorists from Mombasa Road and Langata Road usually use the bypass to beat traffic on Mombasa Road heightened by the construction of the Nairobi ExpressWay.

The Southern bypass connects Mombasa road at Ole-Sereni to Langata Road to Langata Road, before proceeding to Kikuyu Town.

Motorists have been advised to use alternative routes as the efforts to clear the road are being undertaken.

The Southern By-Pass was on the spot a week ago over insecurity concerns as several motorists claim to have been mugged when using the road.

Three suspects armed with machetes were earlier arrested by DCI Officers on Sunday, May 30 as they prepared to stage attacks against motorists along the southern bypass.

Brian Mwangi and Nickson Muchiri aged 25, were arrested following a well executed operation, mounted by Langata based Police Officers.
