The family of a top KCPE candidate was rescued by well-wishers after their plight was highlighted by former Citizen TV news anchor Terryanne Chebet.

The boy identified as Dante, who previously studied at Thika Road Christian school, managed to scoop the 26th overall position in KCPE results countrywide.

Their situation, however, changed after they were forced to live on the streets due to rent arrears after his mother Janet Moraa lost her job at a telecommunications company due to an acute illness.

"Just came across the most unfortunate situation, a young man walked up to my sister and I in Hurlingham, he's 17 years old and is in Kisii High School but is living on the street with his ailing mother after they were evicted from their home," Chebet revealed on her social media post.

The journalist had called for help for the family after she met Dante's brother in Hurlingham, Nairobi a few days prior.

Touched by his plight, the journalist went and spoke to Moraa. She revealed that she has spinal cord complications, and complained about how her body ached due to presence of sores.

She added that she had been admitted to Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) but got kicked out due to lack of funds.

After the story was highlighted on Sunday afternoon, June 13, scores of Kenyans poured their support for the family.

Among the Kenyans of goodwill include Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja, KMPDU secretary-general for Nairobi, Thuranira Kaugiria and Dr Maxwell Okoth who reached out to her.

"An update on Janet, RFH healthcare has picked her up in their ambulance and will admit her for examination. Thanking Thuranira for your swift assistance and Sakaja Johnson, Dr.Maxwel Okoth, and everyone who reached out," Chebet stated.

Kenyans.co.ke reached out to Sakaja to find out more on his intervention but was he was unavailable for comment.

Kenyans of goodwill are known to come out in numbers to aid others in dire situations especially after their plight is highlighted on social media or featured on TV.

This has seen Kenyans offer monetary help or other forms of assistance to aid the families in need.
