Former Kenya Air Force commander Mwenda Mbijiwe's mother, Jane Mbijiwe, met with Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) George Kinoti on Monday, June 21.

The two met for six hours at the DCI headquarters along Kiambu Road.

Jane was convinced that foul play was involved in the disappearance of her son, a security expert, and hoped that Kinoti would brief her on the developments of the case

Her family members had lamented that they were kept in the dark since police took over the case.

Jane hoped that a face to face meeting with Kinoti would keep her abreast of the proceedings. She was reported to have travelled to Nairobi after the detectives announced that they had traced a car hired by Mbijiwe before his disappearance.

Mbijiwe's mother declined to speak to the media after her meeting with Kinoti.

Speaking in Meru County, Mbijiwe's uncle added that the mother would stay in Nairobi until the son is found and they were hopeful that he was alive.

The uncle lamented that Meru residents were also astounded by the news and had asked the DCI to expedite the case. Mbijiwe contested for the Meru Gubernatorial seat in 2017 via an ODM ticket but lost.

His sister Tamara Mbijiwe filed for a missing person report at the Central Police Station on Saturday, June 12. Tamara told Kenyans.co.ke that Mbijiwe had reached out to a family member prior to his disappearance.

Police are putting together his whereabouts but are yet to summon Edward Mwangi, the businessman who had hired his car to Mbijiwe.

Mwangi disclosed that the ex-KDF officer had hired his car for three weeks. The vehicle was found vandalised and parked at Kamiti Corner.
