A licensed firearm holder has shot a woman he reportedly mistook for wanted Caroline Kangogo in Trans-Nzoia County on Thursday evening, July 8. 

The woman identified as Phanice Chemutai Juma was shot in the abdomen by businessman Ken Muyundo at Kiminini Market.

According to a police report from the Kiminini Police Station, under OB 26/8/7/2021, the woman had allegedly pestered the businessman with multiple calls to meet, which made him suspect she was Kangogo.

He reported the incident at 9:30 pm at the Kiminini Police Station, claiming that he fired a bullet to scare Chemutai, whom he suspected was the wanted suspect.

“Ref my OB 26/8/7/2021 at 2130hrs. It was reported by one Ken Muyundo of telephone number <REDACTED> and a licensed firearm holder s/no. <REDACTED> that there has been a lady by the name Chemutai who has been persistently calling to meet him within Kiminini market,” the police statement read.

The area OCS arranged a trap with Ken who then fired a single shot at the lady to scare her.

She was later apprehended and on interrogation, confessed to having met Ken after exchanging numbersOn calling Ken, the lady identified herself as Phanice Chemutai Juma from Kaboiywo village in Kaptama location.

Upon realising that the lady was shot on her left abdomen and the officers who had laid a trap together with the licensed gun holder rushed her to Kitale county hospital for treatment.

The police repossessed the gun belonging to Ken which was loaded with ten rounds of 9 by 18mm and also retrieved the cartridge which will be used as an exhibit in the case.
