A senior police officer attached to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was attacked by boda boda riders along the busy Lang'ata Road.

According to a police report seen by Kenyans.co.ke, the officer identified as Zackary King'ori Mwangi had knocked down two pedestrians leaving them with serious injuries before fleeing the crime scene.

Boda boda riders pursued the officer who was in the company of a lady and attacked them before a policewoman intervened and saved them from the irate mob.

Mwangi was reportedly driving on the wrong side of the road when he caused the accident. He suffered injuries on the face and arms after being attacked by the boda boda riders. He allegedly told police that he was in a hurry to pick a patient at Karen hospital who was in distress.

Police in their report admitted that the two pedestrians that were hit by Mwangi were in serious condition at the Kenyatta National Hospital where they had been rushed by a good samaritan.

His vehicle registration No. KBU 754M was damaged on the front bumper due to the accident, and the boda boda riders had smashed the left side windscreen.

In the past, boda boda riders have been warned against taking action into their own hands when they clash with motorists on the roads.

Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai in January 2021, stated that the service would crackdown on rogue boda boda riders taking the law into their hands.

Mutyambai lamented that the National Police had received numerous complaints where boda boda riders had assaulted civilians and in some cases, burnt their vehicles.

"It is against this backdrop that I caution all boda boda riders and operators against uncouth and uncivilised manner of addressing issues," reads an excerpt of the statement.

The IG stated that the riders should adhere to all set traffic regulations, all laws of public order and decency, failure to which, they would be dealt with in accordance with the law.

"All police officers have been directed to be on the lookout to take the necessary lawful action against any boda boda rider found to be taking the law into their own hands," he stated.
