Former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) CEO Ezra Chiloba has landed a top government job.

In a statement on Tuesday, September 28, the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) announced that Chiloba would head the authority as Director-General.

The 42-year-old will serve for a term of four years and replaces Francis Wangusi who occupied the position from 2012 to 2020.

The recruitment of the new DG was delayed after the authority re-advertised the positions on two occasions in 2020.

According to the Board of the Communications Authority stated that Chiloba was appointed after a competitive recruitment process to fill the position left vacant with the retirement of Wangusi.

"The Board wishes to thank Mercy Wanjau, MBS who has been acting in the position of Director General of the Authority," the statement read.

In the statement, the CAK board announced that Chiloba will begin his duties at the authority start immediately.

Chiloba is a policy consultant and Principle Partner with Chil and Kemp consultancy and an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya. 

He holds an undergraduate degree in Law from the University of Nairobi, a Master of Arts degree from Central European University in Hungary and a Master of Science degree in Program Management from the University of Oxford. 

The former IEBC CEO holds a postgraduate diploma in law from Kenya School of Law and also holds a certificate in the Blockchain strategy program from Said Business School at the University of Oxford.

He holds further training in Corporate Governance, Projects Management, Collaborative Leadership and Monitoring and Evaluation.

"Chiloba previously worked as a Team Leader and Deputy Chief of Party with Development Alternative Inc. He was previously a Projects Analyst in charge of governance, electoral systems and processes with the United Nations Development Program in Nairobi," the statement stated.

He was appointed to a state board, according to a Gazette Notice dated Thursday, December 31, 2020.

Ministry of ICT CS Joe Mucheru appointed the former IEBC CEO to the board of Youth Enterprise Development Fund for a period of three years starting December 22, 2020.
