German-born fashion designer Anna Trzebinski and her husband Tonio Trzebinski built a family home in their 20s when they were just newlyweds.
Unknown to them, almost 30 years later, their home would transform to become one of the most exquisite hotels in the suburb of Langata, Nairobi County.
The idea of transforming the home into a hotel dawned on Anna in 2020 at a time when she was dealing with the collapse of incomes during the pandemic.
She would auction her entire stock online and raise some money that would cushion both her and the team.
Anna explained that she could not relieve some of her employees or initiate a salary cut.
"We have worked together for three decades, given birth together, married, educated our kids together, buried husbands together," Anna told the Financial Times.
The fashion designer and her team embarked on transforming the nine bedroom home and in just six months created a sanctuary and arts hub.
On its website, the hotel takes pride in having a private gallery space that is filled with the family’s own artworks and creations, as well as their personal library and artefacts that have been collected over a lifetime from across the continent.
Hotel guests have the opportunity to enjoy a fully immersive contemporary cultural experience within the intimacy of the hotel and across the city.
“The extraordinary thing is that bringing together all the threads of my life here has set me free,” Anna stated.
Kenyans.co.ke learnt that for a night at the hotel, one has to part with Ksh35,000 for single occupancy and Ksh50,000 for the master bedroom. For two people, the room would cost a total of Ksh80,000.
