Detectives based in Nyali have arrested a Ugandan national in connection with the alleged killing of a 25-year-old woman.

In an update to their initial statement, the DCI stated that the man was arrested while hiding in a cinemax in Nyali, where they had laid a trap for the foreigner.

The police further stated that they got wind of the Ugandan's whereabouts after he sent a taxi driver to pick up his belongings from the room where the incident allegedly occurred.

It was also stated that the foreigner got into the country on September 1, 2021, and was meeting the deceased for the second time.

The man is currently being held by the police for further questioning.

Police have launched a manhunt for a foreigner they seek to question over the death of a 25-year-old woman in Nyali, Mombasa.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) on October 4, 2021, stated that the foreigner was suspected to have pushed the woman off the balcony of his bedroom at the storey house.

A statement by the DCI detailed that the incident occurred in the wee hours of Monday morning.

"Nyali-based detectives are pursuing a man suspected to have murdered his lover at 3 am today morning, by throwing her from the balcony of their bedroom in Nyali," an excerpt of the statement read.

According to the DCI, the deceased's body was discovered by the security guard manning the apartment. The guard was reported to have heard the woman screaming as she fell from the apartment.

The foreigner reportedly fled from the crime scene after the incident transpired oblivious of the fact that the detectives obtained his details, which were shared with the multi-agency team tracking him down.

"The guards immediately rushed to the room only to find the door wide open and the man missing," stated the police.

Detectives also sealed off the area immediately as investigations commenced into the matter. Forensics department officers were called to assist local police to analyse the crime scene.

The foreigner is said to have invited the deceased to his apartments hours before she passed away.

The police have further raised concern over the rising cases of crimes of passion in the coastal cities.

On October 2, 2021, a couple died after jumping from the fifth floor of their apartment in Mtwapa, Kilifi County.

Residents of the building stated that they saw the man jumping off the building followed the woman.

"We heard a loud bang, something that sounded like a heavy object hitting a vehicle. This set off the alarm of the car," an eye witness recounted.
