President Uhuru Kenyatta has finally broken his silence following the defection of his long time ally and Kirinyaga Governor, Anne Waiguru.

The President, speaking in Ruiru on Friday, October 29, called out politicians who are defecting from political parties noting that it was not the time to change affiliations when Kenyans are in need of development projects.

Uhuru stated that he was aware of the political climate but he will address the issue when the right time comes. He called for tolerance and challenged Kenyans to vote for leaders with integrity.

He appealed to Kenyans not to fall for incitement remarks from politicians noting that the common mwananchi stands to lose the most if the country lacks peace.

Further, Uhuru asked Kenyans to vote for a leader who will continue supporting his projects and those left behind by retired President Mwai Kibaki. He also urged Kenyans to choose wisely and not vote for thieves, comments that were seen to be directed to his deputy, William Ruto.

His comments on Waiguru come amid reports that detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) were probing the Kirinyaga Governor in relation to the loss of funds at her county. The anti-graft agency spokesperson, Yassin Amaro, told Kenyans.co.ke that the commission has finalized an investigation on a graft case involving Governor Waiguru and other Kirinyaga county officials.

Amaro stated that the investigation files will be submitted to the office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) after which prosecution will begin.

But the move came under criticism by DP Ruto and his allies who opined that the anti-graft agency was being used by state machinery to intimidate Governor Waiguru for declaring her support for the second in command ahead of the 2022 elections.

However, not all Ruto allies conquer that the Governor was being probed due to her support for him. Waiguru's biggest competitor, Kirinyaga Woman Representative, Purity Ngirici, dismissed the claims that she was being targeted for joining UDA.

Ngirici, who has expressed interest to unseat Waiguru in the 2022 gubernatorial race, mocked her for blaming the graft probe on her defection from Jubilee.

"When anti-graft agencies strike, don't blame it on joining UDA. We have built the party from scratch," she stated.

Defending her move to UDA, Waiguru stated that she was only following the electorates' wish in order to defend her gubernatorial seat.

Earlier, Waiguru insinuated that the summons was made because of her stand on the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) after it flopped and the 2022 succession politics.

Experts also argued that Waiguru did not make her switch at the right time. Political analyst, Herman Manyora, explained that her move was not well calculated because she is not experienced and should have taken a little more time to study the game.
