The drama between Kirinyaga Woman Representative, Purity Ngirici, and Governor Ann Waiguru, continues to play out after the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) reopened investigations into the latter's graft probe.

An officer from the EACC had confided to Kenyans.co.ke on the morning of Thursday, October 28, that a graft probe involving the governor had been finalised and the file was awaiting to be forwarded to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).

Taking to her social media in response to the probe, Waiguru claimed that she was being targeted because she joined United Democratic Alliance (UDA) where she intends to defend her seat.

The governor argued that the probe was aimed at dissuading future defectors from joining UDA which is headed by Deputy President William Ruto.

"Surely, barely 48hrs after we decamped to UDA and now this? As a believer in the rule of law, this is unfortunate.

"It’s intention is to dissuade those contemplating the same and an attempt at engineering succession politics. It wont work. Kenyans are not stupid. There is God in heaven," she responded.

Ngirici, who has expressed interest to unseat Waiguru on the gubernatorial seat, however, mocked her for blaming the graft probe on her defection from Jubilee.

"When anti-graft agencies strike, don't blame it on joining UDA. We have built the party from scratch," she stated.

Since Waiguru joined UDA on Tuesday, October 26, Ngirici has challenged her to be open for nominations and respect the residents decisions.

"There are those who were singing that no one could stop reggae. You know some of them say that they have joined our camp this morning to join hands with us since they are listening to Wanjiku.

"What made me happy was that they said they listened to what you (the voters) are saying. You have said that you will support those who help you," Ngirici expressed at the time.

Experts have, however, argued that Waiguru did not make her switch at the right time. Political analyst, Herman Manyora, explained that her move was not well calculated because she is not experienced and should have taken a little more time to study the game.
