Inspector General Hilary Mutyambai has responded to the murder probe of Agnes Wanjiru- a Kenyan reportedly murdered by a British soldier in Nanyuki in 2012.

Using the #EngagetheIG forum on Monday, November 1, the police boss directed the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to reopen the case and compile all the available evidence and witness accounts.

He urged the DCI to collaborate with the UK government in order to ensure the case was concluded before a court of law in order to bring the suspects to book.

"I have directed the DCI to re-open the case and compile all the available evidence and witness accounts and ensure the case is concluded before a court of law. I am also urging the UK government to collaborate with us to conclude the case and administer justice," Mutyambai stated.

Wanjiru's body was discovered on March 31, 2012, in a septic tank at a hotel in Nanyuki, Laikipia County nearly three months after she went missing.

Investigations revealed that five soldiers from the British Army Unit Kenya (BATUK) had revealed the same identity of the soldier at the centre of the murder.  A decade later, the case has caused a raucous online with Kenyans calling for justice for Wanjiru's family.

UK Labour MP for Birmingham Yardley, Jess Philips, has also called for investigations to be concluded and justice to be served.

"This is brilliant reporting and a tragic tale which I will be pressing the Defence Secretary for answers about. Her name was Agnes Wanjiru and we owe her a debt."

"I have actually stayed in this hotel I believe while in Kenya meeting sexually exploited women and men," she stated.

Further, the UK MP set up a crowdfund page in order to raise money for the family. The page has currently attracted more than 300 supporters who contributed over Ksh1.09 million.

Further, the UK High Commissioner to Kenya, Jane Marriott, reiterated her government's support for the conclusion of the investigations.

"I share the concern about the tragic death of Agnes Wanjiru in 2012 - my thoughts are with her family and the community. I can assure Kenyans that the UK is fully cooperating with the investigation and will help in any way we can," she stated.
