Police officers and witnesses are still trying to make sense of a bizarre incident in which Turkana North police boss is said to have jumped off a speeding vehicle to his death.
Turkana North Officer Commanding Police Division (OCPD) Baraza Wabomba allegedly opened the door to the land cruiser that had been carrying him and jumped out to a valley area near Kapenguria.
He died on the spot.
The deceased had been on his way to Nairobi for the ongoing police vetting, being carried out specifically for OCPDs, their deputies and AP commanders of the rank of Senior Superintendent (SSP) as well as (Superintendent ) SP in Nairobi.
Wabomba had been serving in Nairobi's Starehe constituency until February this year when he was transferred to Turkana and as such, was scheduled to appear before the vetting panel Monday.
Speaking to The Standard, Rift Valley regional police commander Gideon Amalla confirmed the death but maintained that the police do not have details of the accident.
The Saturday incident left many baffled as the OCPD's motivation into the act remains unclear.
Investigations into the matter are on going.
