Kirinyaga Governor, Anne Mumbi Waiguru, has clapped back at her arch-rival and 2022 elections challenger, Woman Representative Wangui Ngirici, accusing her of trying to cause a rift within the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party.
Waiguru, who decamped to Deputy President William Ruto's camp less than a month ago, now accuses Ngirici of trying to intimidate her with the aim of forcing her to bow out of the race or bolt from the party.
Speaking at her Kagio, Kirinyaga home after a meeting with Boda Boda riders on Thursday, November 25, the outspoken Governor stated that UDA is a national political and should not be treated as personal property.
Waiguru argued that her late entry into the party does not warrant anyone to treat her like a backbencher.
''This is politics and you cannot mistreat me because of my late entry. As a matter of fact, you have no say as far as elective seats are concerned, the electorate will decide,'' she stated.
She noted that bringing many leaders on board would grow the party and strengthen it even as the country prepares for the 2022 elections.
''We need the party to grow and for this to happen, we need to absorb as many leaders and Kenyans as possible. I am also calling on all my competitors to join the party so that we can help it grow,'' she remarked.
The outgoing Governor further lamented that it is the decision of the Kirinyaga residents to choose their preferred leader in the upcoming polls.
Waiguru's sentiments were in response to Ngirici's remarks that the Governor should tread carefully as she was a newcomer to the party.
However, the Governor stated that she will continue mounting campaigns for herself and the UDA party leader, William Ruto.
She reiterated that she will only adhere and listen to the voice of the public and what the electorate will dictate.
''After months of listening to the ground and thorough consultations, I joined UDA because the people wanted me there. I remain committed to walking with them even as I continue seeking their votes.''
Additionally, she dismissed reports circulating on social media that DP Ruto had called off his Kirinyaga tour.
