ICC Prosecution Says It Lacks Sufficient Evidence to Prosecute Ruto and Sang

ICC prosecutor Fatou Bensouda has admitted that the prosecution lacks sufficient evidence to prosecute Deputy President William Ruto and journalist Joshua Arap Sang for crimes against humanity in the ongoing case at the court.

Bensouda claimed that the prosecution  had been denied critical information by witnesses who have been intimidated or bribed.

Five witnesses in the case had recanted their earlier testimonies against the suspects while one withdrew from the case.

As a result, Bensouda has written an application to judges at the court requesting that the prosecution be allowed to use prior witnesses accounts recorded outside the court.

Capital News reports that Bensouda pointed an accusing finger at Ruto and Sang claiming that the people interfering with witnesses were acting on their behalf.

According to report by The Nation, the development in the case comes as frustrating news to the post election violence survivors who are still waiting for the outcome of the case.

Their lawyer Wilfred Nderitu explains  “It is really frustrating when witnesses do not testify on the dates when they are supposed to.”
