On Wednesday, January 19, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) announced the mass recruitment of teachers.
TSC's Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Nany Macharia, confirmed that the commission was recruiting 2,945 teachers.
The national recruitment drive will see TSC hire 2,053 primary school teachers and 892 secondary school teachers.
TSC explained that the recruitment drive will allow the commission to replace members of the workforce who left the practice through natural attrition.
These include those who were sacked retired, declared redundant or passed away in 2021.
Primary school vacancies were categorized into counties. Kiambu (120), Kakamega (104), Bungoma(96) will get the highest number of primary school teachers.
On the other hand, the secondary school slots were specific to the institution and subject. This information will be made available on TSC's official website.
How to apply
All applicants should be Kenyan citizens and have a TSC Number
Interested candidates should create an account on TSC Online portal, teachersonline.tsc.go.ke.
To create an account, the teachers will need to update their academic qualifications complete with primary and secondary school certificates as well as those from the tertiary level.
Those applying for primary school positions should have a Primary Teacher Education (PTE) Certificate (P1 certificate) from KNEC or a Bachelors of Education degree (Primary education) from a university recognized by the government of Kenya (with 2 teaching subjects.).
Secondary school teachers require a Diploma in Education from a recognized teacher training institution
They must have attained a minimum mean grade of C+ in KCSE or its equivalent (one principle and two subsidiaries in A-level) and at least C+ or credit pass in the two teaching subjects.
