Police are investigating an incident where city businessman Sudhir Shah was killed after being sprayed with bullets after parking his car off Thika Road.

A report by Nation on Sunday, March 6, indicated that the deceased, aged 66 years, had just held a meeting with his colleagues - directors of a land company known as Ndarugo Plantation 1960 Limited.

The directors also included the late Internal Security minister John Michuki's son - Francis Michuki. The team had visited a coffee plantation along Thika Road when they were accosted by gun-wielding thugs on a motorcycle.

They were ordered to lie down but Michuki's bodyguard opened fire on them. They retaliated by firing back and left Shah with serious injuries. There was a heavy exchange of fire in the daylight incident.

"They arrived at the said company and made some official discussions in the office for a while and later one of them left driving slowly outside the office compound and all stopped and parked their vehicles aside next to a coffee plantation close distance to the Thika superhighway.

"While conversing, they were accosted by two suspects who came riding a motorcycle of unknown registration number,” read the statement as per the publication.

Shah was later pronounced dead upon arrival at Thika Central Memorial Hospital where he had been rushed for treatment. He sustained gunshots through the chest.

"One of the suspects was armed with a pistol and ordered everyone to lie down on the ground. They lied as ordered but the officer defied the order after seeing one of the [was] suspects armed with a pistol.

"He moved some distance away, took cover and started firing at the suspects who in turn responded by firing back. A fierce exchange of fire ensued and the suspects were overwhelmed and sped off without robbing the victims," added the statement.

Fortunately, the other nine directors including Francis and his bodyguard escaped unhurt.

Officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have opened investigations into the matter.

"Investigations are ongoing to unearth what exactly transpired and to bring the suspects to face the law,” stated DCI headquarters Head of Investigations John Gachomo.

In May 2021, another businessman was shot dead by armed gangsters in Enkopiriai in Angata, Narok County while heading home in his motorcycle.

Richard Nyambegera Mautia was shot upon arrival to his home and died instantly.
