The Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company (NAWASCO) has announced interruption of water supply in 16 Nairobi estates.
The affected estates will experience the shortage from 6.00am on Thursday, March 10, to 6.00pm on Friday, March 11.
In the announcement, NAWASCO Managing Director, Nahashon Muguna, stated that some estates will go without water for up to 36 hours.
The company explained that the disruption in water supply follows the complete shut down of the Ngethu Water Treatment plant following a major leakage in one of the main water pipes.
"There is major leakage on the raw water pipeline from Mwagu water intake along Chania river to Ngethu Water Treatment Plant which will necessitate a complete shutdown of Ngethu Water Treatment Plant," read the NAWASCO statement in part.
Upmarket estates affected include Upperhill, Gigiri, Muthaiga, United Nations - Gigiri, Westlands, James Gichuru, Waiyaki Way, Riverside, Lavington, Kilimani, Kileleshwa, and Karen.
Other neighbourhoods to be affected include Lang'ata Road, South B, South C, Madaraka, Buruburu, Parklands, Pangani, Nyayo, Embakasi Estate, and areas around the Aga Khan Hospital.
Customers living along Thika Road, Thome, Kenyatta University, Kahawa Barracks, Kasarani, Mwiki, Kahawa Sukari, and Garden Estate will also experience the shortage.
Mathare, Eastleigh Airforce Base, Huruma, Kariobangi, Maringo, Bahati, Baba Dogo, Dandora, KCC Factory, Umoja 1 and 2 , Dohnholm, Fedha, Tassia, Avenue Park and areas along Naivasha and Kikuyu Road, Kawangware, Riruta/ Satellite, Uthiru, Ndwaru Road, Mountain View, Kangemi, Uthiru and Waithaka will also suffer shortage.
Areas around the Central Business District (CBD), University of Nairobi Main Campus, the Coca Cola Factory, the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) and the Export Processing Zone (EPZ) in Athi River will also be affected.
Nairobi Water noted that it was working to resolve the issue and requested its clients to be patient.
"While every effort is being made to restore the supply of water as soon as possible, we request all customers in the affected areas to use water sparingly during the period of interruption. Any inconvenience caused is highly regretted," the MD noted.
