Monica Kimani's murder probe has taken a new twist after a detective privy to the investigations revealed that the deceased sent a short message to an unidentified man on the night of her murder.

In his testimony in court on Tuesday, May 10, a police officer investigating the matter revealed that Monica sent a text message requesting the unknown person to spend the evening and the night at her apartment.

The detective further intimated that the text message indicated that the deceased was distressed on the night she was murdered.

After tracing the phone records and text messages from Monica Kimani's phone, the officer uncovered the last conversation with the unidentified man.

The focus now shifts to the final moments before the businesswoman was murdered as detectives seek to unmask the perpetrators of the heinous act.

Preliminary investigations revealed that seven phone numbers were linked to the case. Some of the records showed main suspect, Jowie Irungu, and a Mr Ahmed Mustafa as among the people who frequently held conversations with the deceased

This is after another detective revealed that Jowie's contact was traced around Kileleshwa at around 9:19pm on the day Monica's death was reported.

This, however, did not match the initial court records that revealed that Jowie's contact was traced around Denis Pritt Road on September 19, 2018, the day of the murder.

Further, the signal was traced to Nairobi Gospel of God Church Valley Road at 11:54pm and later that same night, the phone was traced to Lang'ata Royal Park and then around Lang'ata Barracks.

The detective's testimony also placed Jowie at Kijabe Hospital and then Gitaru and back to Lang’ata Royal Park estate on September 24, 2018.

Jowie, on the hand, is seeking to prove his innocence as his defense lawyers poke holes in the evidence presented in court.
