Police Recover Pistol, Money Linked to Rongai Home Raid

National Police Service has recovered a pistol linked to the Rongai home raid that was captured on CCTV on Sunday, June 12.

According to a statement dated Wednesday, June 15, police recovered one pistol, a Browning in make, saying it resembles the one that was captured in the CCTV footage.

Browning is a Hi-Power, double-action, semi-automatic handgun capable of firing non-stop successive shots without overheating.

Apart from the pistol, police spokesperson, Bruno Shioso, noted that money believed to have been stolen from the house during the robbery was recovered.

Clothes worn by the unknown assailants have also been recovered and forwarded to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) forensic unit for further analysis.

"In due course of the investigations, detectives have recovered one pistol make - Browning. Some cash money proceeds of the robbery and items of clothing worn by the robbers on that fateful night," the statement read in part.

The recovery follows the arrest of two more suspects linked to the night raid. The total number of suspects in custody now stands at four and they are collaborating with the law enforcement officers carrying out investigations.

"To date, four suspects have been apprehended and aiding police with further investigations. So far, they are cooperating and they shall be arraigned as per the law," NPS explained.

Two of the four suspects were nabbed on Tuesday, June 14, after reportedly withdrawing Ksh240,000 from a mobile money agent in Kasarani area. The police traced them using the wired money.

To intensify the search for the remaining assailants, police have launched a crackdown in Ongata Rongai and its environs.

The arrest of two more suspects and the recovery of the items come just hours after the family explained that the woman who was accosted by the armed attackers was still in shock.

Speaking to the Standard, the family revealed the attackers ransacked the house for 20 minutes before fleeing with property whose value has not been made public.

According to the family, the lady's husband was out of town when the attack was staged. The husband and the house girl have so far recorded statements with the police on the incident.

"The victim is still in shock from what happened. We understand that the robbers had attacked a nearby home before coming they came to our house. They ransacked the house for about 20 minutes before they left," one of the family members told The Standard.
