UPDATE: Tuesday, June 14:11:08 am: Police have arrested two suspects following the Rongai home night raid that was captured on CCTV on Sunday, June 12.

According to police reports, the duo is helping with investigations.

The cops explained that they are also trailing the source of the illegal firearms that were used by the unknown assailants.


Interior Cabinet Secretary, Fred Matiang'i, has taken five security actions after making an impromptu visit to Rongai area of Kajiado county following a robbery with violence incident that was captured on CCTV.

During the tour in the area on Monday, June 13, the CS assured residents of maximum security noting that the Kandisi police post will be upgraded to a full police station. He explained that the construction works will begin immediately.

Matiang'i also told the residents that a contingent of special law enforcement officers will be deployed in the area to flush out criminals who are causing havoc in the area. He noted that the special team will collaborate with the local police to combat cases of crime.

In his first course of action, Matiang'i appointed Pius Gitari, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), to oversee the security operations in the area.

He directed the local police to forward all criminal activities recorded on the Occurrence Book (OB) to his office by Tuesday, June 14.

To protect the area from cropping up entertainment joints within the residential area, Matiang'i ordered police to immediately start monitoring all the wines and spirits establishments. He also directed that no wine and spirit establishment should be set up between Kandisi and Rimpa Stage.

As the police launched the manhunt for the six unknown men captured robbing a female motorist at her home, the CS explained that a special team will be deployed to examine the CCTV footage afresh and help in apprehending the heavily armed thugs.

The National Police Service had earlier issued a statement assuring the residents that the culprits would be arrested.

"The National Police Service has taken note of a cruel incident where a lady driver was waylaid and accosted by armed robbers in Ongata Rongai as she entered her compound at night The armed thugs, while brandishing an AK-47 rifle, physically assaulted the victim and vandalised her property. The thugs stole valuable household items from her residence," a statement by police read in part.

NPS encouraged the residents to embrace community policing in order to address cases of insecurity in the area.

"The National Police Service shall continue to partner with the public under our signature programme, Community Policing Initiative, in order to enhance the security and safety of neighbourhoods while providing an enabling environment for information sharing based on trust," the NPS statement read.

According to preliminary reports, one of the men captured on CCTV footage is believed to be a former rogue police officer. The police are pursuing money and electronics stolen from the two houses on Sunday, June 12.
