Exiled lawyer Miguna Miguna on Monday, August 15, outlined three conditions that should be met before he books a flight to Kenya.

In a statement, Miguna noted that president-elect William Ruto ought to be sworn in as the fifth Head of State before he sets foot in the country.

He added that the red alerts should be lifted and his Kenyan passport renewed- indicating that he had packed his bags in readiness for the 15-hour flight.

"To all patriots: Relax. Thanks for the solidarity. Yes, I've packed my bags and I'm ready. But before I can take my flight back home, William Samoei Ruto must first be sworn in as President, the red alerts lifted and my Kenyan passport renewed. See you soon. Cheers!" he stated.

The vocal lawyer has been a fierce critic of President Uhuru Kenyatta's government, accusing the outgoing administration of blatant disregard for the rule of law and human rights.

While lauding Ruto for the historic win, Miguna advised Raila to concede defeat and exit the political scene gracefully after five attempts at the country's top job.

"Exit the stage gracefully right now. Place a telephone call to William Ruto and concede. You claimed that your handshake was because you love peace," read part of Miguna's statement.

The president-elect had initially affirmed that his administration would bring back the exiled lawyer within the shortest time possible.

"We will bring back Miguna Miguna in the country within the shortest time possible. This is because he's Kenyan and even if he has committed a crime, we have laws in place that he would be tried against. I don't see any need for having refugees from other countries while our very own is a refugee in another country," Ruto stated during a past US tour.

Miguna's woes began after he was deported on February 6, 2018, days after administering an oath during Raila Odinga's mock swearing-in at Uhuru Park.

He protested the move, opening a protracted legal battle, pitting him and the state.

His first attempt to return to the country in March 2018 hit a dead end after he was denied entry upon landing at the Jomo Kenyatta of International Airport (JKIA).

His second attempt in January 2020 was also unsuccessful after he was denied boarding rights to travel back to the country upon reaching Germany. At the time, Miguna raised an alarm over a red alert issued by the government.

A year later, his spirited efforts to return were thwarted when also revealed that the red alert was still in force.

"This is to inform Kenyans and the world that Air France officials at the check-in counter at the Berlin Brandenburg Airport have just informed me that the Government of Kenya sent them a 'red alert' this morning that they cannot fly me to Nairobi. I'm waiting for a cop,” he stated at the time.
