A new homeowner received a double blessing after President William Ruto gifted her a brand-new car worth Ksh1.7 million.

While commissioning the Kings Serenity affordable housing project in Rongai on Tuesday, October 18, Ruto handed Rosemary Adhiambo the keys to her Suzuki Celerio.

Adhiambo was declared the winner of a mini raffle that gave a chance to one of the homeowners to win a car.

"Just before you have your seat, we have a small exercise. We ask you to pick one piece of paper and the owner of the house number indicated on the paper will be the winner of the brand new car," the moderator stated

"E101! Is the owner around? Where is Millicent?" Ruto posed as the lucky winner and made her way to the podium to receive the keys.

In addition, the president recognised two homeowners who gave testimonials on how they managed to buy homes at the residential establishment.

Among them is a carpenter who managed to buy a house in the project and a woman who secured an apartment through a loan she took from a SACCO.

Ruto re-affirmed his government commitment to increasing the number of homeowners in the country, stating that he plans to build at least 2,000 houses per year.

"Half of those houses will be under the categories of affordable and social housing. We are going to work with the private sector developers and pension institutions and we are arranging finances for the purposes of mortgage," he stated.

The head of state added that he would petition parliament to formulate laws that will reinstate the Housing Fund which will enable Kenyans to buy homes with financial backing from the state.

He added that the housing project will also provide employment opportunities for the youths whose skills and expertise will be required in construction.
