Family Celebrates Reunion after Son’s Disappearance for 20 Years

It was joy and celebration for a family in Korogocho, Nairobi when they finally reunited with their son, after he went missing 20 years ago.

Francis Mwangi was only six years old when he disappeared from their home in Korogocho slums.

He had gone to buy his mother’s clients cigarettes when he lost his way.

His mother who had been a changaa brewer at the time says she waited for hours for her son to return.

Mwangi says he ended up in Eastleigh where he became a member of a gang involved in crime and drugs.

He was later arrested and taken to a childrens home in Kahawa West.

According to The Standard, the home, sponsored by a Catholic church enrolled him in school, all through to secondary school and now college.

Attempts to find his family were futile after his mother was arrested for brewing changaa.

She later moved to Mwiki where she remarried.

20 years later, Mwangi sought the help of a Korogocho chief in tracing his family.

After a long search they finally met up at the chief’s camp.

Mwangi could not contain his joy at the reunion.

His mother was also overjoyed explaining how she prayed so many times for his return.
