The National Treasury finally released Ksh4 billion for the second tranche of the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF).

Members of Parliament (MPs).present at the induction of Members of House Committees meeting confirmed to the press on Wednesday, January 25 that the government disbursed the fund into the NG-CDF kitty.

However, the MPs claimed that Cabinet Secretary Njuguna Ndung'u still owes them Ksh12 billion.

Following the new development, the MPs agreed to continue with the induction meeting taking place in Mombasa after staging a walkout on two consecutive days.

Insiders revealed that it took the intervention of National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula who brokered a truce between the two factions.

The lawmakers protested the delay claiming that CS Ndungu had inconvenienced many parents whose children reported to school on January 23.

In an earlier address, Embakasi East lawmaker Babu Owino revealed that MPs began collecting signatures to kickstart the process of impeaching the Treasury boss.

"We have collected over three hundred signatures; he will not joke with us, nor the interest of the Kenyan citizens. We are together because this is not a political party affair," Owino remarked.

In addition, the MPs asked the government to shut down all public primary and secondary schools over lack of capitation or declare basic education free in the country.

However, they noted that they would boycott their constitutional mandate until the NG-CDF funds were deposited in the constituency accounts.

In December 2022, CS Njuguna confirmed the approval of Ksh44 billion capitation to constituencies, and that the Treasury would disburse Ksh2 billion weekly to constituencies.

The first tranche was released on January 3, which MPs used to issue bursaries to a section of their constituents.
