Bishop Dies Following Church Fight as New Revelations Emerge

The death toll from the African Israel Nineveh Church in Vihiga has risen to 4, after the church bishop died yesterday.

Isaac Onyango, a bishop of one of the church branches, was reportedly announced dead following the attacks.

Fresh revelations indicate that the warring factions in the church, are not only fighting over the church leadership but are also embroiled in a tussle over the land on which the church sits.

According to the Nation, the conflict centres around a 3.2 hectares piece of land owned by Archbishop John Mweresa’s family.

On Sunday, attacks erupted at the church after goons, allegedly hired by arch-bishop Mweresa, attempted to attack church members opposing his leadership.

Three people were killed in the chaos, among them -one of the goons.

The group opposing Mweresa’s leadership is in favour of archbishop-elect Evans Mwadiva.

Mweresa is said to have inherited, the church’s leadership in the 1950s from his deceased father, David Kivuri.

Some of the church members now accuse him of wanting to remain in power forcefully.
