IAAF Suspends 28 Athletes Found To Have Doped

Tension swept over the Kenyan athletics community just a day after IAAF announced that 28 athletes who competed in 2005 and 2007 World Championships have turned “adverse findings” from tested samples.

A statement from IAAF reveals that the 28 athletes are provisionally suspended.

This comes barely nine days ahead of the World Athletic Championship in Beijing China which starts on 22nd August.

Isaac Mwangi, the Kenyan Athletic CEO, reveals that the body has not received names of any Kenyan athlete hence he safely assumes non of the Kenyan athletes are affected.

Non of the 28 athletes can be named yet “due to the legal process”

The 2005 World Championships took place in Helsinki, Finland, with Japanese city Osaka hosting the event in 2007. If violations are confirmed the IAAF will correct the record books and re-allocate medals as necessary.

In 2012, the IAAF conducted its first round of re-analysis of urine samples of the 2005 Helsinki World World Championships. The samples were stored in a Swiss laboratory awaiting technological advancement. To date, nine athletes have been sanctioned following retests from various world championships.
