Kariuki Ngari

Kariuki Ngari is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Standard Chartered Bank Kenya, a position he has held for the past four years. 

Ngari is a decorated career banker with over three decades of experience across Retail, Corporate, Treasury and Risk management. 

Throughout his career, he has held various senior leadership roles across the industry at both local and international level. 

He is the brains behind the Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon. The sporting event which has morphed into an annual phenomenon and launched the careers of many athletes. 

He is also a fierce sustainability advocate and has set the lender on course to ensure its operations are fully green by 2025.

Currently, 17 StanChart branches in the country don’t use plastics in their day-to-day operations. 

Further, the bank has reduced water and energy usage by 82 per cent and 50 per cent respectively. 

Prior to his role as CEO of the Kenyan operation, Ngari worked as the Global Head and Retail Distribution at StanChart’s Singapore branch. 

He also served as the Continent's Regional Head, Retail Banking and Non-Executive Director. 

Previously, Ngari has held senior positions in the financial services industry.

He has worked at Barclays Bank (now ABSA) and also sits on various boards.

These include; Tawi Fresh Kenya Limited, Solvezy Technology Kenya Limited and the UN Global Compact.

Ngari also serves as a Director on various other Standard Chartered Bank Kenya subsidiary boards.
