Philip Karanja

Philip Karanja is a Kenyan film producer, director, and actor.

He started off his profession by featuring Melvin in the popular television show Tahidi High, a feat which served as his breakthrough in the Kenyan film industry.

In his decade-long film career, Karanja has bagged several film credits. 

While he started out as an actor, Karanja has in the latter stages of his career opted for behind-the-scenes roles, particularly in directing and producing.

He is a cofounder of Phil-It Productions which has produced popular TV shows including Mother-In-LawHapa Kule NewsReal House Helps of KawangwareHullabaloo Estate, and Sue na Johnnie.

Sue and Jonnie and Hullabaloo Estate won accolades in the Kalasha Awards which further etched his name as one of the top TV producers in the country.

In 2023, Karanja scored a huge win after Netflix acquired the rights to his action film Click Click Bang which tells the story of a promising football prospect who turns to crime when his career threatens not to pan out as envisioned.

Since starting out, Philip Karanja has worked closely with Abel Mutua to produce original content that has both earned rare reviews and bagged them tidy deals along the way.

Phil Karanja attended the Kenya Institute of Mass Communication where he trained in Film and TV.
