Records obtained from Ezekiel Gitangwa's phone revealed that his killers were not only after his life but also his money.

County Criminal Investigations Officer Peter Kiboro, on Sunday, January 8, disclosed to the press that money was withdrawn from his mobile money wallet moments after his death.

Kiboro disclosed that Gitangwa's account had been overdrawn by his estranged lover Agneta Agwata, who sent it to the unsuspecting well-wishers.

"We have ascertained some withdrawals were made using his mobile phone line. The suspect said he had an overdraft and wanted to withdraw the money using somebody else’s phone," he stated.

The alleged killers offered a percentile of the money to lure them into accepting to withdraw the money, including a bodaboda rider who police officers nabbed.

He told the investigators that he was offered Ksh300 to withdraw Ksh3,900. A woman was also approached to withdraw an undisclosed amount which she handed to the main suspects.

According to her, Agwata and her boyfriend, who has been identified as National Youth Service (NYS) officer, went into a drunken stupor using the cash.

In addition, the cops unravelled a series of transactions between Gitangwa and Agwata days before his death.

Kiboro disclosed that they had applied to obtain orders to look into the deceased's bank accounts to establish if the killers also drained his accounts.

He noted that the new findings pointed towards a deal gone bad, not the initial love triangle narrative given by the preliminary investigations.

Witnesses told the cops how Agwata warded off any suspicion from her neighbours after they heard the deceased's cry for help.

She allegedly told them the noise was from some of the guests she had invited for a New Year's party.

The headteacher was found dead in body bags in the nurse's house.
