With the clip doing rounds across social media, the Kabarak University graduate quickly joined the ranks of major activists in the country, scoring media interviews and cementing her influence on social media.

Irungu Houghton

Irungu Houghton is the Executive Director of Amnesty International Kenya, a global human rights organization.

As the organization’s Chief Strategist, Houghton leads a team of committed investigative researchers and campaigners working to end human rights abuses in Kenya.

Under his leadership, Amnesty Kenya has consistently campaigned against human rights violations in the country, particularly in June this year when several Kenyans were reportedly killed while protesting against the Finance Bill 2024.

Njeri Migwi

Njeri Migwi is a tireless advocate for justice in the face of rising violence against women in Kenya.

Born and raised in Kariobangi, Nairobi, she was raised by her father after her parents divorced when she was six. Married at 16, Migwi endured violence, which fuelled her resolve to support others in similar situations.

She co-founded Usikimye, a movement combatting sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV), providing refuge and a voice for survivors.

Nelson Amenya

Nelson Amenya became the talk of the town when news of the intended Jomo Kenyatta International Airport(JKIA) became a hot topic this year.

Amenya was the sole whistleblower in the secret government dealings with the Indian conglomerate of companies, Adani International. 

Ndungu Nyoro

Ndugu Nyoro is an advocate for education for all and the founder of Affecto Foundation, a non-profit organization that focuses on nurturing responsible young adults. 

Being the brains behind Affecto's Watoto Wasome mentorship program, he had dedicated himself to promoting the right to education for children from underprivileged backgrounds.

Due to his works, Nyoro was honoured with the ABE International Award for advocating affordable and accessible education in Kenya in 2023.

Hanifa Farsafi

Hanifa Farsafi Adan is an influencer primarily on the social media platform X, an activist and a social commentator

She mostly focuses on social issues affecting society which has forced government officials to fix recurring problems.

Most notably, in 2023 she trained the spotlight on the broken drainage system in Korogocho slums which was posing a serious health risk to residents.

Hudson Alakonya

Hudson is an oncologist and an accomplished medical practitioner with a  PhD in oncology research from the University of Oxford.

Dr. Alakonya is currently a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory in New York.

His research mainly focuses on developing Single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) and positron emission tomography (PET) molecular imaging agents for early detection and prognosis evaluation of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma.

Wanjira Mathai

Wanjira Mathai is a Kenyan environmentalist and activist.

She is the daughter of Nobel Laureate, the late Wangari Mathai.

Wanjira is renowned for advocating for change in  key environmental issues affecting the continent such as deforestation. 

Her role as the Managing Director at the World Resources Institute and chief Advisor at the Bezos Earth Fund, allows her to mobilise for funding to help mitigate the adverse effects of climate on vulnerable regions.
