The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) appealed for help to apprehend the prime suspect in the murder of Rita Waeni which occurred in January 2024.

According to the sleuths, the prime suspect was a man, still at large who was identified through CCTV footage.

Further, the DCI released the image of the suspect captured by CCTV from the day he interacted with Waeni.

The man was seen dotting a white cap and sunglasses, which the detectives alleged was a tactic to evade cameras.

“In its endeavour to expedite the delivery of justice to the young soul and provide closure to the family, the Homicide Directorate calls upon anyone who can identify the man whose images (though blurry) appear on this post, to come forward and share information that may assist in his arrest,” appealed the DCI.

The agency also termed the suspect as having a criminal mind given he evaded being captured by the cameras.

A report on the suspect's whereabouts revealed that he had visited several hotels in Nairobi West and a short stay apartment along Roysambu TRM Drive in October and November 2023.

He is reported to have spoken fluent Kiswahili and English and was well versed in Nairobi's geographical layout and those of neighbouring counties.

Additionally, DCI added that statements by persons of interest had been recorded and more data sourced from digital platforms to tighten the case.

In relation to the case, two suspects had been earlier arraigned on January 22, at the Makadara Law Courts.

Detectives from the DCI in a sworn affidavit revealed that the two suspects lived in Ndenderu, Kiambu County where they were arrested.

The law enforcement officers further revealed that the two lived close to where Waeni's head was recovered.
