"(The three) were intercepted yesterday by a team of ANU & OSU crime busters with a black suitcase, whose contents were a few clothes, toiletries and three teddy bears.

"On ripping the teddy bears open 298 pellets of the nose candy weighing about 6.8kg estimated at Sh27.5 million in street value were discovered, alongside several air tickets for different destinations in the name of the female suspect."

The detectives indicated that they were acting on a tip-off from members of the public who pointed at the three as running a suspicious syndicate.

"The DCI warns traffickers that their misplaced efforts will only earn them tickets to courtrooms and correctional facilities," added the agency.

The arrest came after the agency recovered a loaded AK47 rifle and a bale of bhang hidden at a chimney inside a suspect's house in Meru County.

The suspect reportedly fled when the officers approached the home where a magazine with 20 rounds was recovered.

"Acting on a tip-off, Anti-Narcotics detectives augmented by their Transnational Organized Crimes Unit counterparts raided the two-bedroom house, whereupon search the rifle loaded with a magazine of 20 live rounds and a bale of bhang was found," read the statement in part.

The detectives launched a manhunt for the suspect who is still at large.
