Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Sheriff Nassir was on Wednesday forced to intervene after the offices of Radio Rahma, which he owns were raided over alleged arrears.

In a video circulating online, the Governor could be seen arguing with a group of men who seemed to have forced their way into the establishment without the management's approval.

However, the governor stood his ground insisting he was not aware of the arrears in question.

He further questioned why the men had not followed the right channels to address the matter if at all, their claims were legitimate.

“You came here, and everyone I have talked to is saying that they are not aware of the arrears, I think you have been sent to harass us”, stated Nassir.

Radio Rahma an Islamic radio station based in Mombasa that broadcasts to Coast residents.

Further, Nassir smelt a rat linking the raid to his decision to ban sale and distribution of muguka in his county. He summed it up as a retaliatory attack over how firm he had stood on the matter.

“If you have been sent here to harass us, we will take this matter even further, if this has been occasioned by the ban on Muguka, you will not intimidate us”, added Nassir.

Mombasa County effected the ban on the sale, distribution and consumption of muguka in the county a few days ago citing that it had led the youth to be unproductive.

Nassir has continued to maintain a hard stance on the ban despite Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi declaring the ban null and void.

President William Ruto has also announced that he has convened a meeting with Nassir and his fellow Coast Governors namely Gideon Mung'aro of Kilifi and Andrew Mwadime of Taita to find an amicable way to address the matter.

The Governor maintained that he had the statistics to prove the negative effects of the stimulant on Mombasa’s youthful population.

Additionally, media coverage on Wednesday morning reported escalating tensions between county officers and Muguka traders seeking to bring in bales of muguka into the county.

However, the county officers barred the traders, denying them entry.
