Two Kenyans based in the United States successfully connected more than a hundred people to nursing jobs abroad.
Joktan Tanui and Japheth Kemoi, who both hail from Kericho, have been running the Central Nurses Staffing Agency in Kansas where they link nurses to jobs in the country.
The two, who work alongside a third immigrant to the country, Mudibo, explained in an interview on Daring Abroad, that their working model involves hiring nurses, ensuring they are trained and certified then later deploying them to hospitals on demand.
They later receive payment from the hospitals and in return pay their personnel.
Kemoi and Tanui who are also trained nurses stated that they founded their business in 2020 at the height of the pandemic following a shortage of nurses.
The duo narrated that their business has since soared and employs more than 119 nurses deployed to partner hospitals in the States.
Additionally, they have narrated that they are working towards bringing in nurses from Kenya to satisfy the high demand.
“We want to venture into getting nurses from Kenya because we know there is a huge shortage of nurses especially here in the US and Europe, we want to venture in getting people from home so that they can cover those gaps,” stated Kemoi, the Chief Operating Officer for the agency.
The two have projected that they are working towards sponsoring the immigration process for healthcare workers who will later enter into a contract with the company for some time.
According to the two, there are different levels of nurse training in the United States, with different durations of studying to attain the required credentials.
For a Certified Nursing Assistant, nurses must undertake a one-month course, after which they can be deployed.
However, the two noted that there are also opportunities for certified nurses including those in who have studied until Masters Level.
