Residents of Machakos County and those from Kawangware in Nairobi County expressed grave concerns after two suspects passed away while in police custody.

The two passed away in different police stations less than a day apart, in what many described as having happened under unclear circumstances.

Reports indicate that a conductor at the Machakos Bus Park  believed to have been arrested by council officers is said to have died  by suicide inside a police cell after his arrest.

However, independent observers questioned this account, raising questions on a minute by minute account of what had happened until his eventual demise.

Residents questioned the circumstances under which the suicide happened and why the police failed to detect the incident as it was happening.

Miles away, another man passed away at Kawangware Police Station on Tuesday morning while inside the law enforcement facility.

The man whose death was shrouded in mystery is stated to have succumbed to injuries sustained after being beaten by a mob before he was arrested.

According to the  Dagoretti OCPD Kivinda Kilonzo, the deceased was attacked by the mob before he was detained but died at Kenyatta National Hospital.

However, the family while speaking to journalists refuted the claims stating that they suspect foul play in their deceased kin’s death.

Earlier on, police officers from the station had stated that the deceased had committed suicide, a statement which was quickly retracted.

In both instances, residents came out in big numbers to protest the deaths, with police being forced to quell the protests that erupted in Kawangware.

The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) is expected to initiate probes into the two cases.

In another incident which occurred on Sunday June 2, a mother from Makueni County alleged that her son passed away in police cells at Kambuu Police Station moments after she was arrested.

The mother alleged that she  was physically assaulted by the police officers with her son getting caught up in the fracas.
