Raila Odinga's Curriculum Vitae is set to be translated into 6 different languages ahead of submission for the African Union Chairman position.
In terms of preparedness, Raila disclosed that the Secretariat was in the process of revamping his resume in line with the requirements for the top continental job.
"Currently, the team is firming up preparatory and application documents together with requisite translations of the resume into six AU languages (French, English, Kiswahili, Arabic, Portuguese and Spanish) ready for submission to the AU Secretariat by the end of June 2024," Raila said.
The Secretariat, a team of highly experienced and knowledgeable officers, established by the State Department for Foreign Affairs, includes the campaign secretariat and the candidate's strategy team.
The dedicated team has also developed an empirical campaign strategy that includes identifying opportunities, challenges, and risks that Raila’s candidature faces.
“Additionally, the campaign involves outreach programmes to Capitals of AU member states, briefing of Kenya Missions abroad, and engagements with Diplomatic Corps in Nairobi,” the statement read in part.
The government expressed confidence in Raila’s candidacy, saying his credentials and the passion to advocate for Africa’s interests globally and champion more opportunities for Africa and her people set him apart from other candidates.
At a joint press briefing, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi disclosed that senior government officials had held a consultative meeting with Raila and his team to assess his campaign's preparedness.
"At this meeting, we exchanged notes on the state of the quest so far, the preparations from my side and the government’s side and the next steps," Raila said.
Mudavadi said the government had created a campaign secretariat to work with the opposition supremo to ensure he clinches the plum continental position.
Speaking at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters in Nairobi, the Prime Cabinet Secretary confirmed that the William Ruto government will back the candidate and offer any support needed.
The Azimio la Umoja Leader lauded the government and senior politicians for backing his aspirations and overlooking partisan political parties.
