"I want to convey my condolences to the family of Mr Nduanti. We know that there is a family that has lost a loved one and I have not had an opportunity to send my condolences to that family.

"I want to send my condolence to that family as their loved one tomorrow," he stated.

Nonetheless, he maintained his innocence over the matter adding that was the reason for his not guilty plea.

Further, Kagombe alleged that there may have been outside forces that pushed for the authorities to arrest and charge him with murder.

"I have taken a plea of not guilty today and this matter is perfectly before a court of competent jurisdiction therefore I trust the judicial process is going to take place and everyone is going to get justice.

"The tea elections will not be derailed by people trying to misuse the judicial system by bringing a case so that I can locked up. The farmers will get the justice they deserve," he added.

He expressed confidence in the court, adding that the truth will be revealed and justice served to those affected by the case.

On the other hand, he thanked his family and colleagues in Parliament for standing with him during his arrest and detention, revealing that they often visited him while in police custody.

Kangombe was arrested by police following investigations by the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI).

According to the police, the MP fired the fatal bullet which hit the boda rider during the skirmishes witnessed in Thika in May.

He was charged at the Machakos High Court and consequently released on a  Ksh1 million cash bail or a bond of Ksh2 million with one surety of a similar amount.

The matter is scheduled for mention on July 17, 2024.
