National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung'wah on Friday, May 17, was whisked away to safety following the chaos that erupted at a meeting in Thika, Kiambu County.
In a video seen by Kenyans.co.ke, the drama ensued after the supporters of Thika Member of Parliament Alice Ng'ang'a clashed with Kamenu Ward MCA Peter Mburu over the construction of the Kiganjo market.
MP Ng'ang'a alleged that the Kiambu County Government led by Governor Kimani Wamatangi was attempting to hijack the project, indicating that the National government had already Ksh55 million.
Her sentiments were echoed by Ichung'wah who hailed Ng'ang'a as a worthy competitor for the Kiambu Governorship.
"He has rallied all people to disrupt Alice from speaking. I told her that she had every right to speak. She is fit to be governor," he stated.
"The National Government has set aside millions for the market. This is not for the Kiambu County Government but for the people. No one is competing with him so he should not compete with Ruto."
Tensions mounted when Ng'ang'a and Ichung'wah attempted to launch the project, as they encountered MCA Mburu and his supporters who lay claim to the construction site.
The confrontation escalated as police officers lobbed tear gas canisters to restore peace in the area. In the video, Ichung'wah who was among the crowd, was whisked to safety as stones were hurled in the crowd.
Ng'ang'a's aide was also rushed to hospital, nursing dire injuries following the chaos.
Gabriel Kagombe (Gatundu South), who was also in the meeting, broke silence following the altercation accusing the Kiambu County Government of the chaos.
"It is even worse that in the ensuing altercation, I and other residents were injured," Kagombe noted.
Thereafter, speculations mounted over the arrest of the politicians involved in the meeting. Ichung'wah, however, posted photos on his platform showing him receiving President William Ruto at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) after a trip to Rwanda for the Africa CEO Summit.
