Police officers stationed in the Nairobi Central Business District have arrested a section of Kenyans protesting the Finance Bill 2024.

In a video seen by Kenyans.co.ke, police officers in uniform and civilian clothes handcuffed Kenyans wearing black T-shirts and forced them onto a stationary police van.

The Kenyans could be heard shouting slogans, pushing for the rejection of the contentious Finance Bill 2024 that proposes draconian taxes on Kenyans undergoing a harsh economic period.

"Down down finance bill. Kenyans, why am I being arrested? Do not accept that Finance Bill," a handcuffed man wearing a black shirt chanted as he was escorted by police officers near the Kencom building in Nairobi.

Police officers at Kenya National Archives were seen bundling more Kenyans into a police van stationed.

"Why are you arresting me? We are peaceful people," the detainees were heard telling the police officers.

The heavy deployment of police officers dressed in uniform and civilian clothes and armed to the teeth came after Kenyans online agreed to protest on Tuesday, June 18.

A section of Kenyans convened under the hashtags #RejectFinanceBill2024 and #OccupyParliament to express mass anger on punitive tax laws at the proposal stage of the National Assembly.

Netizens united to compel Members of Parliament to shoot down the controversial bill proposing to tax Kenyans to their last penny.

The decision to mount a spirited march to the National Assembly to deliver the message to the legislators physically was met by the heavy presence of police officers condoning off the legislative House.

Nairobi Regional Commander Adamson Bungei dismissed the plans to organise any protest in Nairobi.

According to Bungei, the organisers of the protests did not apply for any license to picket or hold peaceful demos in Nairobi.
