Kenya Railways is set to introduce reclining seats on the Standard Guage Railway (SGR) in a move aimed at offering luxury and comfort to passengers.
The reclining seats will be offered in the wagons offering the Kenya Railway Premium Services.
According to Kenya Railways, the seats will be reclined fully and will act as beds for passengers who book the premium class.
Additionally, there will be enough legroom and space for the passengers travelling in the premium class.
Unlike the normal wagons, each wagon will have 28 seats to provide sufficient legroom.
"Fully Reclining seats for your comfort and relaxation. KR Premium is set to redefine luxury travel with exclusive amenities and top-notch comfort," Kenya Railways stated.
On the other hand, there will be additional storage space for passengers including storage space for shoes.
Kenya Railways is also set to introduce specialised catering services for the premium class services.
"Segregated from other compartments, the premium coach offers privacy and exclusivity ensuring passengers can work, relax or simply enjoy the beautiful scenery.
"Premium Class passengers will have access to VIP lounges and benefit from priority boarding and disembarkation at terminals, adding to the already existing convenience to their journey," Kenya Railways stated.
Kenya Railways is expected to announce the date and prices for the premium services in the coming days.
However, the prices are expected to be higher than that of the ordinary tickets. Currently, ordinary tickets from Nairobi to Mombasa cost Ksh1,500.
