The Kenya Meteorological Department on Saturday urged Kenyans in select regions to brace for heavy rains for the next five days from July 6 to July 10.
In its forecast, the weather department stated that some regions of the country would receive rains in both heavy and moderate amounts.
Among the regions forecasted to receive heavy rains included the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley and North-western Kenya.
Counties in these regions include Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang'a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka and Nairobi.
Others include include Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru.
Counties of Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia and West Pokot were projected to receive heavy rainfall for the next five days.
According to Kenya Met boss David Gikungu, parts of the coastal region are also expected to receive rainfall in moderate amounts.
Meanwhile, the rest of the country was projected to remain generally dry with sunny conditions expected in various regions.
“Strong southerly to south-easterly winds with speeds exceeding 25 knots (12.9 m/s) are expected over some parts of the Coast and North-eastern Kenya,” read part of the advisory.
"Intermittent cool and cloudy conditions are expected over some parts of the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the South-eastern lowlands and the Rift Valley."
The Southeastern lowland regions of Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado and Taita Taveta were forecasted to experience sunny conditions throughout the weekend.
Similarly, the North-western regions of Turkana and Samburu Counties would experience warm and sunny conditions for the first three days and cloudy conditions for the last two days.
