Nairobi Auctioneer, Westminster Storage and Auction Mart, on Friday gave car owners an ultimatum to pick their cars or risk losing them via auction.
In a Gazette Notice dated Friday, July 12, the auctioneers announced that the properties were in two locations, Industrial Area and Karen, both in Nairobi.
In the first notice, owners of 10 vehicles at the auctioneer's storage mart off Enterprise Road were given 21 days to pick up the cars.
If they fail, the auctioneer revealed that he will auction the property in effort to recover debts of varying degrees.
For instance, the owner of a Nissan Juke owes the company Ksh131,450, the Komatsu Excavator owes Ksh848,430, the Mitsubishi Canter (Ksh227, 860), and the Isuzu bus (Ksh275,360). The most expensive debt is by the owner of Toyota Succeed who owes Ksh1.4 million.
"Notice is given pursuant to the provisions of the Disposal of Uncollected Goods Act (Cap. 38) of the laws of Kenya, to the owners of the below-mentioned motor vehicles to take delivery of the said motor vehicles which are at Westminster Storage and Auction Mart, along Kuguru Loop Road off Enterprise Road, Industrial Area, Nairobi within twenty-one (21) days from the date of the publication of this notice and upon payment of all accumulated storage charges and cost of this publication and any other demand costs, failure to which the same shall be disposed off either by public auction, tender or private treaty and the proceeds of the sale be defrayed against all accrued charges without any further reference to the clients," read the notice in part.
Separately, Westminster Storage further announced that 14 other cars, and a motorbike, at a client's storage in Karen risked going up for auction.
As a result, the auctioneer gave the owners an ultimatum of 21 days to collect the property, 'failure to which the said motor vehicles/salvages will be sold either by public auction or private treaty and the proceeds of the sale shall be defrayed against any repair cost balance/storage charges."
In Karen, the cheapest debtor is the owner of a Nissan Wingroad who owes Ksh210,400 followed by a Mercedes Benz owner who owes Ksh326,000.
In the storage is a Nissan Vista, pick-up Navara, Hilux, Toyota Isis, Toyota Mark II, Nissan Sunny, Mazda Demio, and Toyota Prius. The owner of the motorbike owes Ksh828,200.
The auctions were featured among similar notices targeting locomotives and even household goods.
Nellions Moving and Relocation Company, in a separate notice, published names of individuals required to collect their household items within 30 days or risk auction.
The owners are required to settle the full payment of outstanding packing, transport, and storage charges.
