HELB Announces Education Loan of Up To Ksh600,000 for All Government Employees

The Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) on Monday, July 29, announced that all government employees were eligible for an educational loan. 

The Jielimishe Loan ensures that government employees under permanent and pensionable terms receive up to Ksh600,000 for advancing their education. 

Additionally, staff from selected private companies can access the educational loan

“Do you have a government job? You can get low-interest loans of up to Ksh600,000 with an attractive repayment rate of just 10 per cent annual interest rate,” HELB announced.

The Standard

Some civil servants who qualify for the loans include members of the disciplined forces in the National Police Service (NPS) and Kenya Defence Forces (KDF). 

County and national government employees working in various ministries are also encouraged to apply for the facility. 

All staff working in public commissions can also access the low-interest loan offered by HELB. 

Public commissions include; the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), Judicial Service Commission (JSC), Public Service Commission (PSC), Commission on Administrative Justice, Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) and Commission of Revenue Allocation (CRA). 

Staff working in different parastatals were also asked to take advantage of the opportunity to advance their academic journey. 

Currently, Kenya has 290 parastatals with notable ones including the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), The National Social Security Fund (NSSF), the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF), Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) among others. 

Lecturers and other support staff working in public universities and academic institutions are also eligible to apply for the loan. 

To verify if a private company is eligible for the loan Kenyans are asked to email the name of the firm to jielimishe@helb.co.ke 

For undergraduate students applying for second and subsequent loans, they are advised to use USSD code *642# to submit their application.
