Kenya is set to witness a week of unpredictable weather, with the Kenya Meteorological Department forecasting cold and cloudy conditions across various regions.
From Saturday, August 24 to Wednesday, August 27, the country will experience a mix of chilly temperatures and sporadic rainfall, creating a significant impact on daily activities.
The Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, including Nairobi and several surrounding counties, will see intermittent rain. Nairobi County, along with Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang'a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka, can expect scattered showers throughout Saturday.
Conditions will remain cloudy on Sunday, with showers in the afternoon and a chance of rain continuing into the night. This pattern is likely to persist on Monday and Tuesday, though there may be brief sunny intervals. By Wednesday, the region will experience morning rain and showers throughout the day.
Temperatures are expected to range from a chilly 10°C to a more pleasant 25°C, presenting a stark contrast that will keep residents on their toes.
David Gikungu, Director of the Kenya Meteorological Department, highlighted that "Intermittent cold and cloudy conditions are expected over some parts of the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the South-eastern lowlands, and the Rift Valley."
The South-eastern lowlands, including Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, and Taita Taveta, will face cloudy weather on Saturday and Sunday.
However, conditions are forecasted to be partly sunny on Monday and Tuesday, with a likelihood of rainfall on Tuesday night.
Temperatures in this region will vary between a chilly 9°C and a more comfortable 31°C.
The Highlands West of the Rift Valley, including Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, and several other counties, will see rainfall throughout the weekend. Showers and thunderstorms are expected to occur over multiple areas each afternoon from Saturday to Wednesday.
Monday and Tuesday mornings will offer sunny intervals, but Wednesday is predicted to be particularly wet.
Temperatures here will fluctuate between a chilly 7°C and a more comfortable 30°C on Tuesday, creating a diverse range of weather experiences.
Along the Coast, which encompasses Mombasa, Tana River, Kilifi, Lamu, and Kwale, Saturday will start sunny but turn cloudy by the evening.
From Sunday to Wednesday, residents should prepare for showers in the mornings and afternoons, with cloudy nights.
Temperatures along the coast will range from a chilly 21°C to a warmer 32°C, contributing to the varied weather patterns expected over the week.
