A Kenyan family from Nyamira has been thrown into mourning after the death of their kin who passed away in Saudi Arabia under unclear circumstances after reportedly falling off a building.

The family of Millicent Moraa Obwocha who prior to her death, complained of sexual harassment from her employer maintained that their daughter must have died from other factors outside the account given to them —  falling from a building.

According to the family, the agency that took her to Saudi Arabia informed them that their daughter died as a result of a brain freeze after suffering injuries from the fall from the building she was working at.

The husband, Simon Obuya, told the media that July 14 was the last day he spoke to the wife over the phone. At the time, the wife had only clocked three months at the Gulf nation.

Moraa traveled to Saudi Arabia on March 17 this year in search of greener pastures, and had on many occasions requested the agency that took her to the gulf nation to find her another employer following the alleged sexual advances that the employer had started making towards her.

‘’She was excited after getting the job, but after a period of two weeks she started complaining of harassment by the employer,’’ Obuya, the husband to the deceased, told the media.

The family recounted that she initially moved out of the job following the alleged inappropriate behavior by the employer who later promised to change and stop making the advances. The employer then convinced her to go back to the job, a request she accepted.

‘’She told me after raising this with the agent, the agent advised her to move out of the home so that they could find a solution and after that when they did, she moved back and that was the last time we spoke,’’ the husband recounted.

The family said that they received the tragic news their kin's death on July 23, 2024 from a health authority in Saudi Arabia which informed them that she died of brain freeze resulting from a fall.

The body is yet to be repatriated back to Kenya despite the agency that took her abroad informing the family that all payments had been made to bring her back home.

The family also decried lack of cooperation from the concerned agencies citing frustration in retrieval of critical information to enable them to understand the circumstances surrounding the death.

The family says the last time they contacted the agent, the agent informed them that they were also in Kenya just like them and that there was no way they could help them beyond what they had already done.

‘’There are documents that we were sent as payments receipts but when we asked them to send us important documents such as the death certificate, they said they will accompany the body.’’ Daniel Areba, the father, told the media.

The family revealed that they read foul play in the whole scheme surrounding the death saying that their daughter was not suicidal at all from their prior interactions, maintaining that there was no way she could have committed suicide.

‘’She was all along a very playful and interactive person and there was no way she could have committed suicide,’’ the husband told the media.
