A kid in Nairobi could be on the verge of achieving his dream of accessing education after President William Ruto on Thursday offered him full scholarship.
The Head of State while addressing residents of Korogocho in Nairobi, pledged to sponsor the child’s education from Grade One through to Tertiary Level.
“This child is called Kevin, all your school fees issues from standard one to the university are sorted,” Ruto announced.
The president announced the decision following a request by Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja who sought to know why the child was not in school.
Upon receiving a brief of the child's situation, the governor immediately made a request that the child, together with his father come forward forward to the podium, where he and President William Ruto were making their addresses.
Sakaja then went ahead to inform the president about the child's situation. It was after the governor's plea that President Ruto made the commitment to dish out the scolarship.
During the announcement, the crowd was heard cheering at President William Ruto's kind gesture.
Ruto adds to a list of prominent politicians in Kenya who have taken up the responsibility and sponsored vulnerable kids in communities.
In June this year, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua offered to sponsor an 11-year-old girl after being moved by the girl's poetry skills and proficiency in English and Kiswahili. This was during the Akurinu National Prayers Conference at Nakuru where the girl made a presentation.
"I was delighted this morning, with my Spouse Pastor Dorcas Rigathi, hosting the pretty Princess and her mother Ann Kariuki for breakfast at the Official Residence in Karen, Nairobi," the Deputy President noted.
"We have identified the talent; we want to propel her to full potential," Gachagua added.
