Death Reported After Lorry Rams Into Trailer on Highway

One person has been reported dead after being involved in an accident along the Thika-Garissa road.

The unfortunate incident happened after a lorry rammed into a stationary trailer at the Kanyonyo Shopping Centre located at the border of Machakos and Kitui Counties.

According to a report by the police, the vehicle was heading to Mwingi from Matuu before the accident occurred.

Following the accident, the lorry's turn boy died on the spot. His body was subsequently transported to  Mbaku Funeral Home in Matuu.

The Kanyonyo Junction has been designated a black spot, as many accidents have been reoccurring here.

In June last year, eleven people lost their lives after an overloaded matatu they were traveling in, veered off the road and rolled several times killing eleven people.

The accident comes barely three days after another accident claimed two lives in Nairobi.

On Monday, a Public Service Vehicle (PSV) rammed into several boda boda riders killing one rider and his passenger on the spot.

It was reported that the matatu was travelling at a high speed from Kawangware to the Nairobi Central Business District (CBD) when the accident occurred.

According to data pulished by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA)1,026 people lost their lives between January 1 and March 20, 2024.

NTSA has called upon road users to be more careful on the roads to avoid further carnage.
