Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi, on Monday, slammed Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei and former Agriculture Minister Kipruto Arap Kirwa terming them as political twins with only complex English backing their political opinions.
Taking to his X page, Sudi termed their opinions as useless noting that they were only coated with polished words.
“In Kenyan politics, Kipruto arap Kirwa and Samson Cherargei, often seen as political twins, spewing complex English to intrigue and confound. Yet, beneath the polished words, they're as useless as chicken eggs. Very useless! Very useless!” Sudi wrote.
Cherargei, who is a staunch supporter and ally of President William Ruto, has been facing criticism from Kenyans and political leaders alike following his bill proposing an increase of the presidential term limit from five years to seven years.
Even President Ruto, who is set to benefit the most if the bill is passed, distanced himself from the deal urging members of Parliament to resist any attempts to increase the term limits for either personal or political gain.
The UDA party also released a statement opposing the deal earlier this month through its Secretary General Hassan Omar who said that the deal goes against Kenya’s democratic ideals and threatens democratic gains made so far.
“This cynical, profoundly misguided Bill contravenes the long-held aspiration of the Kenyan people to retire undemocratic entrenchment of unaccountable political monopolies,” Hassan stated.
National Assembly majority leader and Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wah also joined the debate and termed the bill's premise as “dead on arrival.”
The opposition party ODM on Monday also rejected the bill saying, “The position of the ODM party is that we do not support any proposals to amend our Constitution to extend any elected leader's term in office.”
The bill, whose public participation ended on Saturday, seeks to extend all electoral government positions terms from the current five years to seven years and will benefit Governors, MPs, and MCAs. It also proposed the introduction of a new office for the prime minister among others.
“The Bill seeks to amend Article 151 by inserting a new section, 151A, which proposes to create the office of the Prime Minister. The Prime Minister shall be the leader of the largest party or coalition of parties in Parliament,” reads the bill.
Kipruto Arap Kirwa, a former agriculture minister during the Kibaki administration and also the former UDA national vice chair who decamped to Azimio in 2022, also faced criticism from Sudi for often flip-flopping from one opinion to another concerning the Kenya Kwanza Government, sometimes in support and other times with intense criticism.
