The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives on Wednesday, November 13, arrested one of the country's most sought-after fraudsters involved in the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination malpractices.
The suspect was nabbed in the Kiamunyi area of Nakuru City. Operating in the guise of a female, the 23-year-old suspect had become the nightmare of Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) officials.
Reportedly, the suspect had mobilized a following of well over 78,000 followers in his Telegram account and over 8,500 in his WhatsApp groups where the suspect is said to have leaked the exams.
In an ongoing effort to contain the menace of cheating, sleuths attached to KNEC jointly with their Nakuru County counterparts trailed and located the suspect.
What followed was a well-coordinated raid by security agencies, which led to the suspect being ambushed at his huse in Kiamunyi.
After the detectives gained entry to the home, they began their search of evidence and found the 23-year-old suspect with his tools of trade right on the table.
Among the items that were recovered in the arrest were a smartphone alongside several SIM cards, national Identification Cards (IDs) bearing different names, and a driver's license.
It is believed the smartphone was his key ‘asset’ that he used to fleece unsuspecting grade-seekers as messages detailing transactions involved were found on the suspect's phone.
This further led the detectives to establish that the suspect was a graduate of one of the Kenyan universities, holding a Bachelor of Arts in Human Resource Management.
The probe also revealed he was employed as a salesperson by an international company, and has his roots in the Kaseta area of Sacho in Baringo County.
After a bad day in office, the suspect is now cooling his heels at Nakuru Central Police Station cells, staring at charges of fraud and unauthorized possession of examination materials. He will be arraigned on Thursday, November 14, at Nakuru Law Courts.
It comes barely three days after another key suspect who was the administrator of ‘KCSE 2024 Leakage Group’ on Telegram was arrested in Masaba North, Kisii County.
